Mews of Mayfair

Hip patio scene is London pub-alternative

nightlife

You stumble onto it by accident and a week later can barely find your way back. Mews of London is located off a hip alley in central Mayfair, its entrance lined with several small cocktail table almost always occupied anytime after 2pm. What looks like a hip London pub is actually an innovative cocktail lounge and upstairs restaurant with a glamorous interior design and sexy professional following. More like a private house than a hip Mayfair club, the first-floor lounge features cool leather sofas and tufted circular benches perched with leggy crowd of local fashion journalists. With a glass of champagne in hand, the ladies work the crowd of buttoned-up city boys making light conversation of nibbles on the house’s signature chilli popcorn. The bar also serves a range of light snacks and lunch menu during the summer months. An upstairs restaurant is a popular destination for weekday society lunches with all-white dining room with silk covered walls and leather banquettes.

Tips

There’s never a line or an entrance fee, but the waiters will insist you don’t block the entrance to the surrounding businesses. If single, try to avoid sitting unless you’re with a crowd or on the outdoor patio.

Last Word

Upscale cocktail lounge lures dressed-up pub following for long afternoons and casual nightlife.
